When alum Ryan Berryman was named UNM’s Vice President and Director of Athletics in March, he became the second-youngest Director of Athletics in the FBS at age 32 — a fitting honor for someone whose ties to UNM athletics run deep, going back more than a decade.
At YPA Connects with UNM Young Alumni: An Evening with Ryan Berryman, you’ll get the chance to learn more about Ryan’s story, from student manager to Athletics Director, in conversation with the UNM Young Alumni Association and Young Professionals of Albuquerque, while connecting with young professionals and young leaders in our city.
This event is free to attend.
Meet Your Speaker:
Ryan Berryman was named the 15th Vice President/Director of Athletics in University of New Mexico history in March 2026. Prior to that, he served three months as the Interim Vice President/Director of Athletics, where he led legislative efforts for improvements at University Stadium and worked collaboratively with his team on both a viral 1990’s night promotion at Lobo Basketball and a 10-year naming rights partnership with Nusenda Credit Union.
Berryman's ties to Lobo Athletics run deep. He got his start as a student manager for the men's basketball program in 2012, serving on the support staff that won back-to-back Mountain West Championships. He later served as a student regent on the UNM Board of Regents, where he served as vice chair of both the Finance and Facilities Committee and the Academic and Student Affairs Committee.
A three-time graduate of UNM, Berryman holds an undergraduate degree in marketing and operations management from the Anderson School of Management, earned summa cum laude, and master's degrees in business administration and sports administration, both also earned summa cum laude. He also graduated with distinction from the UNM Honors College. He attended East Mountain High School in Sandia Park, NM.
